Are you interested in the Catholic way of life?
Are you just beginning to explore the great dignity to which you have been called by God?
Please join our informal gatherings at the parish house on Sundays at 12:15 to 2 p.m. after the 11a.m. service to learn more about the Catholic faith. Come and join those who gather each week under the mentorship of other parishioners, some of whom have also gone this same route just a few years previously.
Members of our parish RCIA team will be on hand to answer your questions about Catholicism. Please call the Office at 773-324-2626 and ask for information on how to join the church community gathered here at St. Thomas the Apostle.
Joining the Parish
We invite you to become a member of our parish, even if you are only planing to be in the neighborhood for but a year or two. Many people come into Hyde Park as workers, students or teachers at one of the great institutions that are located in this part of Chicago.
The University of Chicago Hospitals also draws people, sometimes as members of the Staff and sometimes as people who are seeking long term care for themselves or while watching over someone they love.
We have had the privilege of praying with parents whose children have been undergoing treatment at one of the hospital facilities in this area.
We have welcomed people displaced by Katrina and other natural disasters.
We have joined with people fleeing persecution in their own countries.
We hope that you will feel encouraged to seek support from our parish staff and from this wonderful community for whatever current challenges you may be facing in your life.
Please call Lisa Couch-Gilliard for information or send us an E-mail with your name, address and telephone number.
Joining a Ministry or becoming a Volunteer
Once upon a time ministries were understood to be the realm of the many priests that used to grace the parish. Time and a change of theological understanding have led to a complete shift in the way ministry is carried out today.
We rely on the many gifted people to express the gifts of the Spirit in so many ways, such as bringing communion and comfort to the sick and shut in, or caring about issues of housing, poverty and justice.
We invite you to share your unique gifts of time, talent and treasure in ministry and to participate in parish activities which appeal most to you.
Please visit our Ministry page for information or send Pat White an E-mail! We need you !
