Welcome to St. Thomas the Apostle Roman Catholic Parish

Welcome to St. Thomas the Apostle Roman Catholic Church, one of the most racially, ethnically and culturally diverse parishes in the Archdiocese.  We are proud of the many people that make up this vibrant community.

We welcome you to explore and participate in our worship and in our service to the greater Hyde Park community. Come join us!

Our parish exists as a response to Christ’s command to preach the Good News and bring that News to others. As a parish community we exist to offer you and your family an opportunity to grow in spirituality in faith and in service to God’s Kingdom.

Thomas the Apostle comes to us as “Doubting Thomas.”  He refused to simply accept that which he had not personally experienced.  In this he stands as a model of one who actively explored his faith.  We invite you to explore the dimensions of your faith with us. To share your gifts with the wider Body of Christ.  Putting prayer into action is what parish is all about.

Thomas’ profession of faith resulted in his expression: “My Lord and my God!” That is our prayer and direction even now. Come help us bring to life the Kingdom of Justice for all those still hungering and thirsting for it today.

Fr. Elias, O. Carm.
Pastor

The Parish, the Web and You

As we embark upon a new chapter with a new Pastor, we hope that a new web site will grow with the Parish and in a different way.  Web technology has evolved over the years.  Instead of just providing you with Fr. Michael's latest letter, or what time Mass will be, the new generation of web sites allows two way communication, and an ongoing dialogue between the users and the Parish.

The Parish Life Commission's effort to start the 'conversations about the Parish' is one of the first dialogues, beginning with the topics in the survey.  To participate in this dialogue, you must create an account and register on this web site.  The login box is on the left side of the Home Page.  There you can register for the first time to create your unique login, with a unique e-mail address.  You will be given the ability to author articles and contribute to the website.

The dialogues will be visible only after you login in, and while you are logged in, you will be able to write your own article and respond to other comments.

If you have problems getting registered, please contact This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it   Don't worry about doing something wrong, anything you do can be fixed or changed.  If you want to change your login name after you create it, just send an e-mail and we'll do that!  Look forward to seeing you on-line!

News

Fr. Elias takes the helm at St. Thomas!

Effective August 1, 2010, Fr. Elias takes the helm for St. Thomas the Apostle Church! At one of the largest gatherings at Sunday Mass, Fr. Michael received a thank you plaque from the Parishioners of St. Thomas, celebrating eight years as Pastor of St. Thomas.

Despite the stormy weather, the Annual STA Picnic was attended by hundreds of parishioners who got one more chance to talk to Fr. Michael and wish him well.  Thanks to all of the parishioners who helped at the event, provided homemade specialties, food and drink, and also to those who helped set up and cleaned up the STA Elementary School gym.
